Thomas White – a farmer from Deale, England, settled along the coastal section of Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, New Jersey. Mr. White and others name their area Deal, in honor of their homeland.

The Long Branch and Deal Turnpike (Norwood Avenue) is laid out.

Gavin Drummond, a land owner at Deal and Monmouth County Court Clerk, is held prisoner at the Court House at Middletown for three (3) days while alleged pirate, Moses Butterworth, escapes from his trial for piracy. Butterworth was believed to have been a member of Capt. William Kidd’s crew.
